Inaugurating an engaging collaboration with Patricia Urquiola, EFFE unveils Baluar, the new modular sauna and hammam system, where contemporary design, material elegance, and technological innovation converge in an unprecedented and immersive wellness experience.
Conceived through Patricia Urquiola's empathetic and sensory creativity, the collection draws inspiration from the bulwark, an element of medieval fortified architecture: a solid and protective structure, designed both to defend and to observe the surrounding landscape. In Baluar, this architectural figure is reinterpreted as a space of protection and retreat—a compact volume that extends outward while sheltering an intimate interior, designed for slowing down, pausing, and regenerating.
INSPIRED BY MEDIEVAL BASTIONS, PATRICIA URQUIOLA’S MODULAR SYSTEM TRANSFORMS THE CONCEPT OF DEFENSE INTO AN INTIMATE SPACE DEDICATED TO CONTEMPORARY WELL-BEING.
The essential, almost archetypal forms evoke a medieval echo reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The "breadstick-textured" cladding in heat-treated linden wood—available in light and dark variants—introduces a vertical rhythm that animates the surface and emphasizes its architectural presence. Overhead lighting, controlled and measured, defines the atmosphere and reinforces the sense of protection, contributing to an immersive and enveloping experience.
The system integrates sauna and hammam within a single modular structure. Its compositional flexibility allows for diverse configurations: Baluar can be paired, adapted to spaces of varying scales, function as a standalone volume, or be integrated into larger environments, becoming part of an articulated wellness area.
The meticulous attention to detail and technological innovation—hallmarks of EFFE's research—find contemporary expression in the new Baluar collection: a compact and distinctive architecture capable of dialoguing with different contexts while maintaining an authentic formal identity.
